Jimmy and Susan Barto specialize in the music of the Big Band/Swing era and slightly beyond. Their repertoire consists of standards and popular favorites by such musical masters as Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Hoagy Carmichael, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter, as well as a sprinkling of Sinatra hits and Broadway favorites. Jimmy & Susan were recently honored to provide musical entertainment at the retirement gala for noted civil rights activist Lana Joyce Simms at the Trenton, NJ Marriott. Among the two hundred guests in attendance was Ms. Simms' long-time friend Coretta Scott King, widow of Martin Luther King, Jr., who delivered a rousing tribute to Ms. Simms. A little bit about us:

Jim Barto

Jim Barto has had a varied career in music as a performer, composer, arranger and educator. A lifelong trumpet player, he is a graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where he studied composition and arranging with an emphasis on film scoring. Shortly after graduating from Berklee, he joined the faculty as an instructor of film music and held that position for eight years. During this time, he also arranged music for Boston recording sessions and scored music for nationally-televised documentary films. Following his time in academia, Jim has concentrated on music technology in the form of arranging and recording music with computers. When not performing with Soundecision, he creates music software designed to facilitate music arranging, with plans for commercial distribution.

Susan Barto

Susan Ferrara Barto is a lifelong classical pianist and piano teacher. She studied with Madame Elena Wolkonsky of the Julliard and Manhattan Schools of Music and performed in recital at Steinway Hall, New York with Madame Wolkonsky. She also studied and performed with the late David Sokoloff, a world famous concert pianist and piano teacher and former artist in residence at Bucks County Community College and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, PA. Ms. Barto has, for over thirty years, served as Musical Director/Pianist for many area theater companies. She first appeared as keyboardist with her husband Jim Barto at the Logan Inn in New Hope, PA. They have subsequently performed for many private events in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the Greater New York area.

Ted Skolits

Ted Skolits has been in the entertainment business for over 25 years. Immediately after college (Indiana U. of Pa.), he performed ‘on the road’ with the Brooks Paxton Show (currently employed by the Royal Carribean Cruise Line) as their featured percussionist for 2 1/2 years. Soon after, Ted founded the band ‘Kicks’ which has performed for numerous clubs, weddings and formal parties in the New Hope, Flemington and Princeton areas for over 15 years. Currently, he often performs with the Bucks County Community Band and with his church contemporary group. He has played in the orchestra pit for numerous local musicals, his latest being Pennsburys 'Blood Brothers' performed at the national performance in Nebraska. Recently, he performed with his 'family' band at the National Night Out celebration. As a DJ, he has entertained for many private parties, charities and school events in the Bucks County area.
